Chien-Ming Wang Opts Out of Yankees Deal, Will Join Blue Jays

Yankees NewsChien-Ming Wang exercised an out clause in his deal with the New York Yankees and the team granted him his release. Wang had been pitching at the AAA level for the Yankees and has a 2.33 ERA over nine starts and 58 innings pitched.  He also pitched 12 scoreless innings in this year’s World Baseball Classic. Apparently the Yankees showed little interest in calling up Wang.

According to Ken Rosenthal Wang will sign a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays and is expected to start Tuesday. Wang had hoped to regain his form and rediscover his sinker which made him an elite pitcher in the American League East five years ago.

The native of Taiwan appeared in 10 games for the Nationals last season and posted a 6.68 ERA in 32 1/3 innings. He made five starts.

The signing of Wang  is not yet official and the Blue Jays would need to make a corresponding roster move in order to create space on their 40 man roster.
