NL Recaps – Pirates Offense Overcomes Shaky Start by McDonald
Pittsburgh starter James McDonald gave up six earned runs in five innings of work, while walking four and striking out two, and still got a victory against the Colorado Rockies 9 – 6.
“James was able to find his way and navigate through five and just efficient work out of the bullpen,” Hurdle said. “He’s still growing up. The league fires back and when you’re not sharp you pay.”
Jones led the Pirates offense with three hits including a home run.
