AL Scores: Mauer Leads Twins, Red Sox Pound Indians, Cano Backs Yankees

MLB ScoresJoe Mauer had four hits and three RBI in the Minnesota Twins beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-6 at Target Field in Minneapolis.  Angel starter Jason Vargas surrendered five runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.  The Angels have now lost 10 of their first 14 games  and starting pitching.

“I’ve seen him hit his whole career,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. “We’ve seen him do this. I keep saying it’s incredible, and it is. At this level, to keep swinging and get those hits and rack them up like that, it is incredible. That will never change. He’s just an amazing hitter.”

Mike Trout continue to heat up for the Angels and had two hits and three RBI.  Josh Hamilton was hitless  and is now hitting .200  for the season.

Boston 7 Cleveland 2  the Boston Red Sox scored seven runs in the second inning  to beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2. Mike Napoli hit a three-run double in Boston’s seven-run second inning.  Felix Doubront  her know when to earn the win for the Red Sox pitching five innings allowing two earned runs while striking out seven.

Chicago 4 Toronto 3  Paul Konerko hit a  home run in the seventh inning to tie the game with Toronto Blue Jays and and Dayan Vicedo  had an RBI double in the ninth and the White Sox beat the Blue Jays 4-3.

 Oakland 4 Houston 3   Grant Balfour preserved a one run lead for his second save of the season and the Oakland Athletics beat the Houston Astros 4-3.  Carlos Pena homered for the Astros.  Oakland now leads the American League West with a 11-4 record.

 Detroit 6 Seattle 2 Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in Detroit’s first four runs in a 6-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. It was Cabrera’s second four-RBI game of the season after driving in four last week against Toronto when he also hit his first homer of the season

Baltimore 5 Tampa Bay 4   Baltimore Orioles held off a late rally by the Tampa Bay Rays to win 5-4  before just over 14,000 fans in Baltimore.  Desmond Jennings homered on the first pitch of the game and Jake Arieta settled down to win his first game since June 13.  Evan Longoria and Kelly Johnson  homered for Tampa Bay,  Matt Wieters  homered for Baltimore.
