AL Scores: Buchholz Dominates Rays, Trout, Hamilton Lead Angels

Red Sox NewsClay Buchholz took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and Kelly Johnson‘s broken bat base hit to right field prevented the Tampa Bay Rays  from being no-hit for the fifth time in the last five seasons. Buchholz  and the Red Sox settled for a 5-0 win.

Buchholz lowered his ERA to 0.41 and has allowed one earned run in 22 innings He left after 109 pitches, and Andrew Miller finished with a one-hit ninth. The Red Sox  Improve their record to 7-4 to lead the American League East.

Alex Cobb  allowed four runs — three earned — and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, and Tampa Bay lost for the fifth time in six games.

 Los Angeles 4  Houston 1  Mike Trout in his first homerun of the season, and Josh Hamilton his second to help the Los Angeles Angels over the Houston Astros.  Angels starter C.J.Wilson  allowed one run and five hits in six innings to record his first win of the season.

 Chicago 3 Cleveland  1 –  Jake Peavy struck out 11 Cleveland Indians in seven innings of work and Paul Konerko  homered to lead the  White Sox to a 3-1 victory  over the Indians.  Addison Reed recorded his fourth save for Chicago.

Kansas City 3 Toronto 2  Alex Gordon‘s  RBI single in the ninth inning lead the Kansas City Royals to a 3-2  walk-off win over the Toronto Blue Jays.  Ervin Santana pitched eight solid innings allowing one earned run  for Kansas City.

Detroit 10 Oakland 1  The Detroit Tigers pounded Oakland A’s  pitching for 14 hits and 10 runs to secure a 10-1 win. Austin Jackson had three RBI and four hits. Anibal Sanchez  turned in seven solid innings, striking out eight to move his record to 2-0.

Seattle 4 Texas 3 –   Brandon Maurer  allowed two earned runs in six innings of work,  Raul Ibanez  homered and Dustin Ackley added an RBI single and the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 4-3.
