Mets expected to sign both Dickey and Wright to long-term deals

The New York Mets have exercised their 2013 contract options on third baseman David Wright and knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. the move was more procedural as a team has stated it wants to secure the services of both players long-term

Wright’s option is worth $16 million. Dickey’s will be $5 million or more based on award bonuses. Both players are eligible for free agency after the coming season however the Mets view both players as building blocks for the organization. Wright, who turns 30 in December, is believed to be seeking a seven-year deal in the $125 million range.

Dickey was one of this past seasons best stories come piling a 20-6 record with a 2.73 ERA. He is a candidate for the National League Cy Young Award. The 38-year-old Dickey is expected to seek a package that would keep him signed through the 2015 season and surpass $30 million in total value, including the option.
