The Tampa Bay Rays bullpen has struggled mightily this season but no one has struggled more than left-hander Jake McGee. McGee has allowed 19 hits, eight walks and four home runs in 12 innings of work, But Rays manager Joe Maddon said he will continue to use McGee in high leverage situations.
“What Jake needs now is support from me and from us,” he said. “Jake McGee is one of the best left-handed relief pitchers in the American League, maybe in all of baseball right now.
Fantasy Play: McGee has long been touted as the Rays closer of the future. He features a high octane fastball, but struggles with secondary pitches. McGee was once good for picking up a few stray strikeouts on your fantasy team. That is no longer the case.
