AL Recaps – Scherzer, Jackson lead Tigers past Toronto

Tigers newsToronto 3 – Detroit 5 –   Max Scherzer struck out eight and allowed one run in seven innings of work for the Tigers. Austin Jackson went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. José Valverde recorded his 24th save of the season.  Edwin Encarnacion went 2-for-5 with a solo homer. Ricky Romero allowed five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work, and walked eight

Los Angeles 5 – Boston 3Ervin Santana struck out four and walked two, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Mark Trumbo was 2 for 4 with two RBI including his 30th home run of the season. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-run homer for the Red Sox. Aaron Cook allowed five runs, four earned, on 11 hits in five innings for Boston.

Kansas City 1 – Tampa Bay 0 – David Price pitched eight shutout innings, striking out eight and allowed just three hits for Tampa Bay. Luke Hochevar pitched eight shutout innings for Kansas City, allowing just one hit and striking out 10. Eric Hosmer‘s two-out single in the 10th inning drove in the only run in Kansas City’s 1-0 victory over Tampa Bay

Baltimore 5 – Texas 3 – Chris Tillman allowed three runs and pitched into the seventh inning, while striking out seven to beat Texas 5-3 . Nate McLouth hit two-run homer in the fifth inning to back up Tillman. Jim Johnson recorded his 38th save of the season for Baltimore. Scott Feldman pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs for the Rangers.  Manny Machado had two hit’s for Baltimore Ian Kinsler had a solo home run for Texas. Geovany Soto added a two-run homer in the seventh inning.

New York 3 – Chicago 7 –  Kevin Youkilis hit a grand slam, Paul Konerko homered and Dewayne Wise had four hits to lead the Chicago White Sox to a win over the New York Yankees 7-3. Derek Jeter and Russell Martin hit home runs for the Yankees in a losing effort. Ivan Nova gave up six earned runs in six innings for New York. After a shaky first inning Francisco Liriano settle down and completed six innings, striking out seven and allowed two runs.

Minnesota 1 – Oakland 4 – Brett Anderson allowed one run in seven innings of work, while striking out six in his first start since June of last year. Seth Smith went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Grant Balfour recorded his 12th save of the season for Oakland

Cleveland 1 – Seattle 5 – Jesus Montero hit a three-run homer to lead the Mariners over Cleveland. Felix Hernandez gave up one run and pitched 7 2/3 innings, he struck out five
