Chicago Cubs Add Jorge Soler for 30 Million

The Chicago Cubs and Jorge Soler have agreed to a nine-year deal worth approximately $30 million dollars.  The New York Yankees were among several teams that made a run at Soler and came up short.Jorge Soler Cubs News reported by Joel Sherman The news was first. Soler defected from Cuba in 2011 to pursue his career in Major League Baseball.

Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship, where he had a .304 batting average, .500 on-base percentage, and .522 slugging percentage. Soler, according to one report, will be making $30 million with the Cubs over 9 years according to Jon Heyman.

He is described as a power-hitting outfielder who will likely play right field. Jim Callis of Baseball America described Soler as “a 19-year-old athlete with five-tool potential.
