Its been a busy day for the Atlanta Braves. Earlier we reported that team had reached an agreement for outfielder Jason Heyward on a two-year extension and now according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports the Braves have agreed to terms on an extension with first-baseman Freddie Freeman. The the 24-year-old All-Star is coming off a 2013 season in which he batted .319/.396/.501 (144 OPS+) with 23 homers in 147 games.
Terms of the deal were not immediately available, but reportedly could be worth as much as $125 million over 8 years. Last month the two sides exchanged arbitration figures. Freeman filed for a $5.75 million salary and the Braves countered at $4.5 million.
Agent Casey Close, who has established himself as one of baseball’s elite agents, represents both Heyward and Freeman, a pair of 24-year-old players who stand as potential cornerstones to Atlanta’s future. Freeman’s deal means closer Craig Kimbrel is the last unsigned Brave.
