ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – B.J. Upton hit his 100th career home run, and rookie Matt Moore pitched into the sixth inning, allowing six hits and no runs, and Tampa Bay went on to beat the Baltimore Orioles 2-0 in the first game of an American League Eastern division battle.
The Orioles and Rays began the night tied for second place at 55-50. Moore needed 108 pitches to get through his night.
However, the Tampa Bay bullpen of Jake McGee, Kyle Farnsworth, Joel Peralta, and Fernando Rodney helped preserve the shutout, after Moore left the game.
