NL Recaps – Pirates Win 19 Inning Marathon over Cardinals

Pittsburgh Pirates NewsPittsburgh 6 – St. Louis 3Pedro Alvarez hit a home run in the 19th inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates outlasted St. Louis Cardinals in the longest game of the season 6-3.

Andrew McCutchen added a two-run single later in the inning. The game took six hours and 7 min. to complete. Jeff Karstens pitched seven effective innings for Pittsburgh. Jaime Garcia pitched eight innings for St. Louis, however the starters were long gone when this game ended.

A total of 16 pitchers were used in the game. Wandy Rodriguez got the win with two innings of relief for Pittsburgh.

Matt Holliday was 0-7 on the day for the Cardinals. The Pirates had 16 hits.

Other National League Scores

Chicago 4 – Cincinnati 5 – Mat Latos allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits in eight innings, while striking out eight and walking three for Cincinnati. Chris Volstad allowed four runs in six innings for the Cubs, and was not involved in the decision.

Los Angeles 5 – Atlanta 0 Chad Billingsley pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits, striking out four and walking two. Mark Ellis went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI

New York 2 – Washington 5 – Gio Gonzalez gave up one run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. He struck out three and walked two. Bryce Harper homered, tripled, scored two runs and had two RBI for Washington.

Arizona 8 – Houston 1Aaron Hill hit two solo home runs and went 3 for 4 to lead Arizona to a win over the Astros. Ian Kennedy pitched six effective innings for the Diamondbacks allowing one run on five hits. Jason Castro went 2 for 4 for Houston

Philadelphia 8 – Milwaukee 0 – Domonic Brown went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI to backup Kyle Kendrick the scattered three hits across eight scoreless innings.

Miami 2 – Colorado 3 Josh Johnson pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits  while striking out four and walking four for the Marlins. John Buck hit a solo home run for Miami. ordan Pacheco went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for Colorado.

San Francisco 1 – San Diego 7 – Clayton Richard held the Giants to just one unearned run on five hits in eight innings. Cameron Maybin went 4-for-5 with three RBI for San Diego. Ryan Vogelsong  allowed three runs on eight hits in three innings of work
