NLCS Game 7 – Giants Win – Will Take On Tigers in World Series

Scutaro hit .500 in the series and was named NLCS MVP

The San Francisco Giants scored early and often to stake starter Matt Cain to a 7-0 lead after three innings and the Giants completed a comeback from a 3 games to 1  deficit to win the National League Championship Series 9-0 against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants will now take on the Detroit Tigers in the World Series

Angel Pagan got the scoring started early with a base hit against Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse and moved over to third on a perfectly executed hit-and-run single by Marco Scutaro. Pablo Sandoval hit a come-backer to Lohse that he was unable to handle  and Pagan scored to make it 1-0. the Giants then took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out RBI single by Cain.

The Giants essentially put the game away in the third inning exploding for five runs and a 7-0 lead. Scutaro led off the third inning with a single before  Sandoval doubled to left and Buster Posey drew a walk to load the bases. Lohse was relieved by Joe Kelly to face Hunter pence. Pence hit a broken bat single that was misplayed by Cardinals centerfielder Jon Jay scoring all three runs.

Brandon Crawford grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring Pence, and Pagan followed with another fielder’s choice to score Brandon Belt.

The score remained 7-0 until the seventh when Aubrey Huff grounded into a double play scoring Gregor Blanco.

Belt later homered in the eighth to make it 9-0

Cain pitched into the sixth inning allowing no runs, five hits while striking out four. Jeremy Affeldt pitched 1 1/3 innings of scores relief. Santiago Casilla and Javier Lopez pitched the eighth. Lopez got two outs in the ninth.  Sergio Romo came in to get the 27th out, a pop-up to Scutaro by Matt Holliday to complete the shutout.

Lohse was rocked for five earned runs in two innings on six hits. Yadier Molina led the Cardinals with three hits. The Cardinals scored one run against Giants pitching in the last three games of the series. Game 1 of the World Series will be Wednesday night in San Francisco. Justin Verlander will be on the mound for the Tigers, to be followed by  Doug Fister, Anibal Sanchez and then Max Scherzer. Barry Zito will likely be the game one starter for the Giants , followed by Ryan Vogelsong, Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum or Madison Bumgarner
