Giants Reach Agreement with Buster Posey to Avoid Arbitration

San Francisco Giants newsThe San Francisco Giants reached an agreement with reigning National League MVP Buster Posey to avoid arbitration with a one-year $8 million deal. Posey was arbitration eligible for the first time in his career this off-season. The team is expected to begin talks on an extension  with Posey soon. Posey remains under Giants control through the 2016 season. Posey earned $615,000 last year. In his four major league seasons, Posey has compiled a .314 average, .883 OPS, 67 doubles, 46 home runs and 191 RBI.

Giants NewsThe team also reached agreement with outfielder Hunter Pence on a one-year their team $13.8 million deal.  The deal for Posey establishes a new high for arbitration eligible players this off-season. Pence made $10.4 million last year. Pence was will of an a long-term deal. “Absolutely – absolutely I want to stay,” Pence said. “I love it here. Hopefully we can find something that works for both sides. I love the city and I love playing for this team. I love the way the fans treat us here.”

The Giants also settled with reliever Jose Mijares on a one-year, $1.8 million deal, Gregor Blanco on a one-year $1.35 million deal. The the Giants pitchers and catchers are slated to report to Scottsdale on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Their first full squad workout is Feb. 16.
