Clemens maybe returning to baseball in 2013 after all

Roger Clemens is appearing on the Hall of Fame ballot for the very first time this year.

Today we have news that the seven-time Cy Young winner may be ready to take on an active role with the Houston Astros.

Clemens could join the Astros during spring training and possibly the regular season to help with a young Astros pitching staff.

Clemens pitched this past fall for the Sugar Land Skeeters leading to speculation about a return to the major leagues.

Apparently, that is not what this position is all about

Clemens is said to be eager to help the Astros pitching staff and Houston owner Jim Crane and pitching coach Doug Brocail are fully supportive of the effort to bring him on board in an advisory role.

“We’ve got the whole calendar mapped out and we’re going to sort of figure out what makes sense,” GM Jeff Luhnow said Monday.  “But the idea is to plug him in in spring training, plug him in throughout the season, and just have him get a lot more involved with our pitchers.”

Clemens was indicted in 2010 on six counts of perjury, giving false statements and obstructing Congress and was found not guilty in federal court this past June.

Clemens had told Congress in 2008 that he never used performance-enhancing drugs.

Nevertheless the trial and the surrounding media coverage most likely will affect his induction into the Hall of Fame for 2013
