KANSAS CITY, Mo. – the Oakland A’s ended their nine-game losing streak by taking out some of their frustrations on Luke Hochevar and the Kansas City Royals. Josh Reddick and Adam Rosales each drove in a pair of runs, and the A’s need the Royals 9-3 . Hochevar now has a 6.63 ERA, among the worst in the majors. the A’s pounded out 10 hits and scored their nine runs without the benefit of a home run. They did however take advantage of three errors by the Royals.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Baltimore Orioles bounced back to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Brian Matusz stymied the Rays all afternoon allowing just two hits over 7+ innings of work and striking out seven. The Rays loaded the bases in the eighth inning with one out, but Ben Zobrist grounded into a inning ending double play on the first pitch he saw from Orioles reliever Pedro Strop. Jim Johnson worked a 1-2-3 ninth-inning to save his 17th game for the Orioles. Rndy Chavez homered for the Orioles. The victory stopped a six-game losing streak by the Orioles and the two teams will play the rubber game of their three-game series tomorrow afternoon.
CLEVELAND – The Minnesota Twins have been missing Joe Mauer‘s bat. On Saturday, Joe Mauer had three hits and three RBIs including a two-run homer to help the twins to a victory over the Cleveland Indians 7-4. the twins had 12 hits, and nine of those hits came from the first five batters in the Twins lineup. The Indians have now lost their last six of eight games.
CHICAGO – The Seattle Mariners put an end to the Chicago White Sox nine-game winning streak with a extra innings victory, 10-8. The game went 12 innings and 16 pitchers were used. The two teams hit eight home runs, but it was John Jaso, who doubled home the tiebreaking run in the 12th. Michael Saunders had four hits for the Mariners, who has a team had 15. Ichiro Suzuki hit two solo home runs.
DETROIT – Jose Valverde blew a save in the ninth-inning but got the victory when the Detroit Tigers rallied in the bottom of the ninth to beat the New York Yankees 4-3 . Valverde hit two batters with pitches and walked two in the ninth, allowing New York to tie it after Cabrera’s homer onto a camera platform gave Detroit a 3-2 lead. Miguel Cabrera hit two home runs for the Tigers.
