TORONTO – Brett Lawrie knocked in three runs with three hits to back up the pitching of Ricky Romero and the Blue Jays handed the Baltimore Orioles and 8- 6 loss. Romero improved to 6-1. he allowed four runs and six hits in six innings of work to win for the second time in his last five starts. He struck out seven.
The Orioles have now lost four straight games and seven of their last nine, but remained tied with Tampa Bay in the American League East for the top spot. Toronto’s lineup was just too much for the Orioles Jake Arrieta. area finished his night throwing 96 pitches, and giving up seven runs, six of those earned in 4 1/3 innings. He walked three.
The Orioles scored first on Adam Jones home run, his 15th of the year in the second inning. He would add his 16th home run of the year in the ninth-inning as the Orioles attempted to come back scoring two runs in the frame. but the night belonged to Lawrie and the Blue Jays.
The bottom three hitters in Toronto’s lineup, Lawrie, David Cooper and Rajai Davis, went a combined 8 for 12 with six RBIs and scored four runs. Lawrie also snuff out and Orioles rally with a spectacular sliding catch in foul territory in the ninth-inning.
ST. PETERSBURG. Fl. – Philip Humber won for the first time since throwing a perfect game in April beating the Tampa Bay Rays 7-2 on Tuesday night.. The Chicago White Sox extended their winning streak to seven games. the game marked the debut of Hideki Matsui who homered to give the Rays in early 2-0 lead. the White Sox scored five runs in the sixth inning against Rays James Shields to essentially put the game out of reach. Shields gave up six runs and 10 hits in six innings. The Rays continue to struggle to score runs. Alexei Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo both had two RBIs for the White Sox.
CLEVELAND – Will Smith survived a shaky start and pitched six innings for his first win and the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians 8-2. Mike Moustakas had a career-best four RBIs, leading the Kansas City Royals. the Indians have now dropped four of their last five games, since sweeping the Detroit Tigers last week. The loss not the Indians out of first place in the AL Central for the first time in nearly a month.
BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander 6-3 at Fenway Park. The win moved the Red Sox to a game over 500 for the first time this year. Verlander gave up 10 hits and five earned runs in six innings of work. He struck out seven. Boston starter Daniel Bard pitched into the sixth inning and gave up two earned runs while striking out four. David Ortiz had two doubles and a home run to lead the Red Sox.
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins fans have not had much to cheer about this season. Josh Willingham changed all that with a three-run homer in the ninth-inning to lift the Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics. heading into the bottom of the ninth the Twins were down 2-0 , but Jamey Carroll led off the ninth with a single against Brian Fuentes (2-1), who then walked Denard Span. With two out, Willingham hit a 1-0 pitch into the bullpen for the walkoff victory.
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Seattle Mariners put an end to its five-game losing streak and beat the powerful American League West leading Texas Rangers 10-3. The Mariners six run eighth inning essentially put the game out of reach. Jason Vargas was solid over 6 2/3 innings giving up three runs, striking out to and walking three. The Mariners scored six runs off of Rangers relievers Mike Adams and Alexi Ogando. reserve catcher John Jaso knocked in three runs with a homer and a double. Josh Hamilton hit his 21st home run in a losing effort for the Rangers.
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Dan Haren pitched into the eighth inning for the Los Angeles Angels and got runs support from Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo and the Angels beat the New York Yankees 5-1. the Angels have now won 11 of their last 15 games after a horrendous start to the season. The victory put the Angels above 500 for the first time this season. rookie Mike Trout also had a run-scoring triple to help the cause. Andy Pettit managed seven innings for the Yankees on 108 pitchers but gave up five earned runs. Derek Jeter added two hits for the Yankees and now leads the American League with 70 hits, including 20 multi-hit games.
