Ben Sheets Heads to the 15-Day Disabled List
The Atlanta Braves announced today that starting pitcher Ben Sheets was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Sheets lasted 4 1/3 innings against the Giants, and allowed four runs on nine hits, and issued three walks. this was after giving up five runs in six innings in his previous start against the Mets.
Sheets admitted that he was experiencing “dead arm” issues, but didn’t indicate it was anything more than normal soreness. “Everybody else goes through it, I don’t know why I wouldn’t, It isn’t why I didn’t have very good success (against the Mets). If you look at the stuff, the stuff was identical. I felt identical. I felt good out there.”
Apparently it’s a little more than dead arm, hence his placement on the disabled list. the Braves recently moved to a six man rotation adding Tommy Hanson into the mix, however that may change depending in on how quickly sheets recovers. The team recalled Miguel Batista from Triple-A, who was signed by the Braves on July 27 . Batista has a 1-3 record, 4.82 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 46.2 innings this season.
