Cliff Lee returned from the disabled list Wednesday and was sharp , holding the Mets to two runs on five hits and one walk in six innings of Philadelphia’s 10-6 loss. Unfortunately , the Phillies bullpen wasn’t so sharp.
Lee struck out six before watching his bullpen get pounded for eight runs. Lee was pitch count and threw just 84 pitches, and would have certainly come out for the seventh inning under normal circumstances.
Lee should be good to go in his next start against the Astros on Tuesady. Lee will bring a 2.17 ERA and microscopic 0.76 WHIP into his start.
The Mets last swept the Phillies in a three-game series in Philadelphia on June 13-15, 2006.
The Phillies were considered one of the favorites in the National League East when the season began. While it is still early, clearly the Phils have some work to do.
