AL Recaps – A’s Rally for Sweep of Yankees

Oakland athletics newsThe Oakland A’s completed a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees, rallying to beat the Yankees 5-4 on a game ending single by Coco Crisp in the 12th inning.

With the win, the A’s improved to 14-2 , in July, the best in the major leagues. the Yankees have not been swept in a four-game series since May of 2003.

With the Yankees leading 4-0 entering the bottom half of the fifth, Brandon Inge and Kurt Suzuki, each homered, to cut the lead in half.

Inge would ground into a fielders choice in the sixth to score Yoenis Cespedes and the Yankees led by just one run.

With closer Rafael Soriano on the mound, Seth Smith homered in the ninth-inning to tie the game and it stayed that way until the 12th, when Crisp singled home the game-winner.

CC Sabathia pitched seven solid for the Yankees, allowing just three hits while striking out six. He walked only one, and received a no decision. Soriano blew his second save of the season.

The A’s moved into a wild-card playoff spot, with the Los Angeles Angels, and the Baltimore Orioles.
