The Tampa Bay Rays and the San Diego Padres have agreed on a trade that will send left-hander Alex Torres to the Padres in exchange for infielder Logan Forsythe. The deal was first reported by Chris Coltillo of the MLB Daily Dish, confirmed by Rays beat writer Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times and will include additional players, likely minor league prospects.
Update: Rays will also receive right-handers Matt Andriese, Matt Lollis and Brad Boxberger from the Padres, San Diego will receive right-hander Jesse Hahn,
Torres became a important part of the Rays bullpen in 2013 after being called up from Durham throwing 58 innings with a solid ERA of 1.71.
He does fit the mold of a Rays player who can play multiple positions, Forsythe can play shortstop, second, third and the outfield corners, however does have similar numbers to Sean Rodriguez who is already on the roster.
Earlier this month the Rays signed free agent Jayson Nix to a minor league deal and took part in watching a Chone Figgins workout in Tampa.
