Bolstered by his combination of power, speed and range in the outfield, Drew Stubbs has been an intriguing player who has yet to fully harness his talents over give Major League seasons with the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians.
The 29-year-old Stubbs, who was traded to Colorado from Cleveland for pitcher Josh Outman in December, agreed to a one-year, $4.1 million deal with the Rockies on Friday.
Stubbs is expected to take over in center field for Dexter Fowler, who was traded earlier in the offseason to Houston for outfielder Brandon Barnes and right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles.
Stubbs is part of an extreme makeover in Colorado. Longtime first baseman Todd Helton retired and free agent Justin Morneau was brought in, Fowler was shipped out and replaced in the lineup by Stubbs (who is projected to play left field while Carlos Gonzalez occupies center field), and left-handed starting pitcher Brett Anderson was acquired from Oakland for Drew Pomeranz and a minor leaguer.
The Rockies also inked veteran relievers LaTroy Hawkins and Boone Logan, and acquired left-handed reliever Franklin Morales from Boston for utility infielder Jonathan Herrera.
