Valencia has a career line of .263/.302/.412 in four major league seasons. The former Minnesota Twins prospect had a good rookie season in 2010, hitting .311./351/.448 with 7 HR 40 RBI and finishing third in Rookie of the Year balloting.
The Royals may use him in a platoon with with Mike Moustakas at third base this season, hitting 329/.367/.513 in his career against lefties.
