The Boston Red Sox rallied with four runs in the eighth inning and one more in the ninth to best the Detroit Tigers in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series 6-5.
David Ortiz launched a grand slam in eight to tie the game 5-5 and Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled to left, to score Jonny Gomes for the walkout victory in the ninth. It was Ortiz’s third home run of this postseason, the 15th of his career.
For the second straight night, a Tigers pitcher no-hit the Red Sox through 5+ innings of play. Max Scherzer did the honors in Game 2, with nine strikeouts and two walks to his credit before Shane Victorino singles with two outs in the sixth before leaving the game with a 5-1 lead.
The teams head to Detroit for Game 3 on Tuesday. Justin Verlander will face Boston’s John Lackey.
