As expected Detroit Tigers prospect Nick Castellanos has been called up to the major leagues along with infielder Danny Worth and pitcher Evan Reed. Castellanos spent most of the season with Triple-A Toledo, hitting .276/.343/.446 with 17 homers and 74 RBI over 591 plate appearances.
The outfielder is not on the 40-man roster, but can be added without a corresponding move. The news was first reported by John Wagner of the Toledo Blade.
Castellanos is one of, if not the best pure hitter in the minor leagues, as he is able to effectively adjust to different pitches and rake the ball to all fields with ease.
The Tigers lead the American League Central by 8.5 games over the Cleveland Indians with a month left in the regular season.
