The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired Chicago White Sox reliever Jesse Crain for cash considerations or a player to be named later. Brandon Gomes has been moved to the 60-day DL to accommodate the move. Reports began to circulate this morning about Crain being moved , with Tamp Bay being one of the suitors.
White Sox GM Rick Hahn announced the trade and issued the following statement.
“We cannot say enough about what Jesse has meant to our bullpen, and the positive impact he’s had on our young relievers. “We certainly think he has the ability to influence this year’s pennant race very positively for the Rays.”
Crain is currently on the DL with a shoulder strain, but n 36 2/3 innings prior to his shoulder injury, had allowed just three earned runs (0.74 ERA) with 11.3 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9. and was selected to the All-Star team. Crain was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain on July 3.
