The Tampa Bay Rays have been in survival mode for more than a month now.
The team learned today that Matt Joyce who was scheduled to come off the disabled list and rejoin the race this weekend, asked to be removed from a rehab assignment game at Triple A Durham.
“He felt something, and when somebody feels something in rehab, you take them out,” Durham manager Charlie Montoyo told the Sun.
Initially Joyce did not think he would have to go to the disabled list at all. this is the second Rays player to suffer a setback in their rehab.
Evan Longoria‘s return from injury was postponed by a setback during a minor league rehab assignment. The Rays have struggled offensively for much of the last two months.
Both Longoria and Joyce are now looking forward to returning sometime after the all star break.
Joyce is a fan favorite and one of the good guys in baseball. Joyce took to Twitter himself to let the Rays fans know what was going on with his injury.
Little bit of a setback, sry guys… pretty frustrating. At least the all-star break will buy some time.Big series win for our boys tho!!
