When it rains, it pours for the San Diego Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin. After returning from over a month and a half long stint on the disabled list (due to an injured wrist) five days ago, Maybin will be returning to the DL and will miss at least six weeks with an injury to his posterior crucial ligament.
In Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Maybin landed awkwardly on his knee in an attempt to catch a fly ball, damaging the ligament in his knee. After missing seven weeks for his wrist, Maybin will be out for a similar time span, which will place his return well after the All-Star Game.
In four games back from the DL, Maybin posted solid numbers for the Padres, batting .278 (5-for-18) with a home run and four RBI as San Diego split a four-game series with the Rockies.
Over the past three seasons with the Padres, Maybin has sporadically faced health issues, primarily with his wrist (he appeared in 137 games in 2011 and 147 last season).
Maybin might require surgery to repair the ligament in his knee, which has been neither confirmed nor determined by the Padres at this time.
