Cleveland Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera will be added to the disabled list after being helped off the field and last nights game against the New York Yankees.
Cabrera reportedly felt pain ” a little pop” in his right quadriceps after running out a ground ball in the fifth inning.
Mike Aviles will get the lion’s share of the playing time at shortstop while Cabrera this out.
“Mike Aviles will shine,” manager Terry Francona predicted. “I have no doubt. You don’t like to lose any players, but you don’t like to use it as an excuse. Juan Diaz has been called up from AAA Columbus to replace him on the big league roster.
Cabrera is off to a slow start in 2013 hitting .256 with five home runs, 25 RBI and 28 runs scored. In 2012 he hit .270 with 16 home runs, 68 RBI in 70 runs scored period.
