The Boston Red Sox placed Shane Victorino won the 15 day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a left hamstring strain. Victorino As also struggled with a back issue of late and the team thought it best to shut them down for a couple of weeks.
The team also announced a third baseman Will Middlebrooks aggravated an injury on Thursday and was placed on the 15 day disabled list. Middlebrooks left the game yesterday with Cleveland in the fourth inning with lower back spasms.
Middlebrooks is batting .203/ .236/ .413 with eight home runs and 21 RBI. He has struck out 52 times in 172 at-bats.
Jose Iglesias was recalled to take Middlebrooks’ spot on the roster. Iglesias has been playing multiple positions at Pawtucket and will help Pedro Ciriaco at third base while Middlebrooks is out.
The team also announced that it has recalled recalled RHP Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A Pawtucket. Aceves will see action in long relief for the Red Sox and pitched to a 3.13 ERA in four starts for Pawtucket.
