Detroit Tigers starter Max Scherzer stifled the AL Central leading Indians offense in a 5-1 victory on Tuesday night.
Backed by a two-run home run by Miguel Cabrera in the sixth-inning, Scherzer would go on to work eight-innings of one-run ball, surrendering just two hits and fanning seven batters en route to his sixth win of the season.
Scherzer remains undefeated with a 6-0 record, continuing to give the Tigers innings and strikeouts with each successive start.
Following the first-inning, Scherzer retired 22 consecutive batters, making effective use of his mid-90s fastball. His four-seamer had great rise, moving in on Cleveland right handed hitters, and his slider/changeup combo provided plus downward break and was effective on either side of the plate.
The Tigers pull within 1.5 games of the Indians in the AL Central standings, improving their record to 24-19 on the season.
