Chase Utley, in the midst of putting together his first healthy season since 2009, was pulled from the lineup on Tuesday with discomfort in his right side.
In baseball euphemisms, this usually means an oblique problem and that can translate to a likely trip to the DL for the Philadelphia Phillies‘ second baseman.
Fantasy Play: Utley has been one of the most fragile high-end fantasy players more or less since he entered his 30’s and we may now be seeing his extended trip to the DL.
The Phillies’ franchise player played in just 83 games last season and has averaged just over 100 games the past three years, so a potential injury is hardly a surprise.
Most fantasy owners took Utley in a later round at a thin position, but if he is on a roster, he should be benched until further notice. Utley is hitting .272/.339 but has an impressive 21/7/25 mark with 5SB in the first two months of 2013.
