Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price left his start against the Boston Red Sox with triceps tightness in his pitching arm.
Price left after allowing an RBI base hit to David Ortiz in the third inning.
He appeared to grimace and was flexing his left hand. Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon, a team athletic trainer and the Rays infield all joined Price on the mound after the play. Jamey Wright took over for Price and Red Sox scored eight runs in the inning.
Price has struggled this season and entered Wednesday’s game with a 1-3 record and a 4.78 ERA. He was charged with four runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings against the Red Sox.
Tamps Bay Rays Fantasy News
Should Price require a sting on the DL, the have a number of options to consider. Chris Archer who spent some time with the Rays last season could be recalled, or Jake Odorizzi (4-0, 2.97 ERA, 1.04 WHIP in Triple-A) and Alex Torres (2-2, 2.39 ERA, 1.06 WHIP in Triple-A) could also attempt to fill the void. Odorizzi is on the same schedule as Price, pitching for Durham. It seems likely price would miss at least one start.
