Jon Lester gave up a double in sixth inning to Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Macier Izturis and would go on to finish a one hit complete game shutout over the Blue Jays 5-0.
Lester struck out five and walked none throwing 118 pitches, lowering his ERA to 2.73 along the way. Will Middlebrooks, Dustin Pedroia, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Danel Nava provided all the offense Lester would need.
Lester was so dominant that the closest the Blue Jays came to another hit was when Brett Lawrie hit a line drive into centerfield that Jacoby Ellsbury fielded easily.
“He was throwing everything,” Toronto’s J.P. Arencibia said. “I think he used our aggressiveness against us a little bit. He’s pretty special when you could throw cutter, sinker, four-seam, hook, changeup, and on both sides of the plate. The guy’s one of the best in the game for a reason. He showed that tonight.”
Fantasy Play: Lester will look to continue his dominance carrying a 2.73 ERA into Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays next week.
