Instant replay for baseball is supposed to help get it right, and many people are of the opinion that baseball needs more instant replay.
After the fiasco in Cleveland last night with Angel Hernandez missing a call not once, but twice, you have to wonder about the wisdom of such a move.
Last night in Cleveland, Adam Rosales hit a 1-1 pitch delivered by Indians closer Chris Perez at 93 mph to left-center field for what should have been a game tying home run. Umpires ruled the ball hit the outfield wall, giving Rosales a double.
Not according to him chief umpire Hernandez who got it wrong again. Hernandez ejected Melvin when the manager came out to argue the decision.
Granted there are questions that need to be asked and answered with regard to Hernandez and the instant replay process in general.
Was the call in the video replay room made solely by Hernandez? Do the other umpires have any say whatsoever? Is it a majority vote? Does it have to be a unanimous vote?
If Hernandez is in charge of making that call, then okay, he was wrong twice, but if the other three umpires had a say and saw the same thing by my count they got it wrong five times.
