Matt Moore allowed two hits, and one run over eight innings of work and the Tampa Bay Rays handled the New York Yankees in the first game of a three-game series at Tropicana Field.
Moore allowed an infield hit and a home run to Robinson Cano, but nothing more. Moore became the first Tampa Bay pitcher to win his first four starts of a season and his ERA creeped up to 1.04.
Ryan Roberts homered twice off CC Sabathia and Yunel Escobar added a solo shot as the Rays jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Sabathia had a three-game winning streak end and gave up five runs and seven hits over seven innings. Tampa Bay won its fourth game straight game and improved their record to 9-10.
The second game of the series will feature 2012 Cy Young Award winner David Price, against Yankees right-hander Phil Hughes.
More Rays News: NFL CB Darrelle Revis, acquired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a trade with the New York Jets, threw out the ceremonial first pitch for Tampa Bay and received a rousing ovation from the crowd. Luke Scott will start a rehab assignment Tuesday at Class A Charlotte.
