The game against the Oakland Athletics isn’t the only thing that the Detroit Tigers lost Friday; they also lost relief pitcher Octavio Dotel.
Pitching two-thirds of the ninth inning, Dotel had to leave the game after experiencing elbow discomfort. The good news is that it doesn’t appear to be serious.
Dotel describes the injury as such, “Hopefully in the next couple of days, everthing is going to be OK. Better to miss one or two days (precautionary) than three months.”
Dotel is a key part of the backend of the Tigers bullpen. In 2012, his first season with Detroit, he pitched 58.0 innings with a 3.57 earned run average while striking out 62.
