The Boston Red Sox will option shortstop Jose Iglesias to AAA and will activate Stephen Drew off the disabled list. Drew has been out suffering from a concussion and concussion related symptoms since mid-March. Drew played four rehab games with Boston’s Double-A affiliate over the last few days.
Drew was signed to a one-year contract worth $9.5 million this past off-season and hit 223/.309/.348 in 79 games for the Diamondbacks and Athletics in 2012. Iglesias, 23, is a slick fielding shortstop and started the season 9 fro 20 and will likely see some more time at the major-league level later this season.
Red Sox News: David Ortiz (heels) went 2-for-5 in an extended spring training game Tuesday And is expected to play in another extended spring training game before going out on a regular minor-league rehab assignment. Alfredo Aceves will start on Thursday in place of John Lackey who suffered strained biceps over the weekend in his pitching arm.
