Zack Greinke struck out six and did not walk a batter and 6 1/3 innings of work to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0. Andre Ethier homered to back Greinke, and Los Angeles got RBI doubles from Matt Kemp and Adrian Gonzalez.
Greinke gave up just a two-out single to Garrett Jones in the second inning and a one-out single to Andrew McCutchen in the seventh. Brandon League pitched the ninth for his first save of the season, completing the two-hitter.
San Francisco 1-St. Louis 0 – Barry Zito turned in seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four in the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals and Jake Westbrook 3-0. the Giants won their 15th straight game with Zito on the mound, including the postseason and San Francisco starters have now gone 26 innings without allowing an earned run.
Miami 7 – New York 5 – Miami took advantage of shortstop Ruben Tejada‘s error to score five runs in the seventh To beat the Mets 7-5. it was the first victory for new Marlins manager Mike Redmond. Placido Polanco had three hits and two RBI for Miami and Greg Dobbs had a two run homer.
Atlanta 4 – Chicago 1 – Mike Minor pitched into the eighth inning and Justin Upton connected with his third home run in four games to help the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1. Greg Kimbrel earned his second save of the season for Atlanta.
Arizona 3-Milwaukee 1 – Kyle Lohse started his first game for the Milwaukee Brewers allowing one earned run over six innings of work. He struck out five, but it could get him run support in the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Brewers 3-1
