The Texas Rangers have reached an agreement with shortstop Elvis Andrus on a contract extension of $120 million. Andrus will be guaranteed $131.275 million over 10 years, counting the $11.275 million he had left on his existing contract. the deal was reportedly worked out over the last several days, and was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Andrus, 24, joins second baseman Ian Kinsler who is signed with the Rangers through 2017 with an option for 2018. Andrus was the subject of trade rumors throughout the winter. Andrus has a career .274/.342/.352 batting line. With Adrian Beltre at third base the Rangers now feature three All-Star infielders.
The Rangers have top ranked prospect Jurickson Profar playing shortstop at AAA Round Rock to start the 2013 season. During the off-season the Rangers contemplated moving second baseman Ian Kinsler to first base to create a spot for Profar at second base.
