Matt Tuiasosopo‘s hot spring has translated into an invite to the frigid north as Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland has told the 26-year old outfielder that he has made the club as their fourth outfielder and will be heading to Michigan with the parent club.
Barely reaching the 40 degree mark around the metro Detroit area the past few days, and having snowed today, it is doubtful that the weather will bring down the warmth that Leyland’s news laid into Tuiasosopo.
Until Avisail Garcia is healthy and able to contribute as a platoon outfielder, look for Andy Dirks (lefty) and Tuiasosopo (righty) to form a very affordable left field platoon on a team that is pushing the pocket-book of their owner.
It is possible that Garcia will be left to play with the Toledo Mud Hens if Tuiasosopo remains a steady bat as the organization would prefer Garcia, who is highly regarded as one of their young, future stars, to get as much regular playing time and at bats as possible.
