ATLANTA – Alex Rodriguez tied Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig with his 23rd career grand slam and the New York Yankees rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score 6 runs in the eighth and beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4. Nick Swisher also had a two-run home run for the Yankees. CC Sabathia (8-3) left trailing 4-0 after seven innings but ended up with the win after the rally. The Yankees now have won 15 of their last 19 games and are in sole possession of first place in the American League East.
CINCINNATI – Johnny Cueto this is second complete game of the season and allowed only one runner to reach second base in the Cincinnati Reds beat the Cleveland Indians 7-1. Joey Botto homered in the seventh and drove in three runs with two hits to break the game open. the Reds had 13 hits compared to just six for the Indians.
MIAMI – Clay Buchholz allowed five hits and struck out a season-high nine in seven innings to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins. Buchholz is 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA over his last seven starts. K Shoppach doubled to center in the 7th inning and Will Middlebrooks scored. Mike Aviles then singled to right center and Shoppach scored. Logan Morrison hit his fifth home run in the bottom of the seventh for the Marlins only run. Mark Burhle pitched well for the White Sox in defeat.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla – Chris Young plodded his way through 5 2/3 innings in the New York Mets scored six runs in the seventh inning to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 11 – 2 . The Mets scored 10 unanswered runs to win the game handily. Jordany Valdespin drove in a career-high four runs, three of them with a pair of two-out hits.
TORONTO – Bryce Harper had three hits including his seventh home run of the season, and Danny Espinoza had to run home run as the Washington Nationals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 . Toronto starter Anderson Alvarez gave up three home runs and is now winless in his last six starts. Jose Bautista homered for the Blue Jays in the loss.
ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers starter Colby Lewis tossed a four-hitter at the Arizona Diamondbacks to lead the Rangers to a 9 – 1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lewis struck out seven and walked one. the Rangers exploded for five runs in the sixth thing to blow the game open. David Murphy had two RBIs and his sixth home run of the season. Dean Kinsler chipped in with three hits and an RBI. Miguel Montero supplied the only run for the Diamondbacks with his fifth home run of the season.
