Tigers Would Include Cash in Verlander Deal and Other MLB Trade Rumors

As with each year following the annual All-Star break, rumors continue about possible trades of high-profile players as teams competing for a postseason berth and a World Series title try to find the missing piece or pieces to their championship puzzle.

The annual trade deadline of July 31 is still 13 days away, but that does not stop the trade rumors from surfacing around the league.

Last Thursday the season’s first big deal was completed when pitcher Jose Quintana was traded by the Chicago White Sox to cross-city rivals the Chicago Cubs for two top prospects and two other minor leaguers.

The biggest rumor of the day on Tuesday is that the Detroit Tigers are reportedly willing to add cash to a deal that includes veteran pitcher Justin Verlander. That could help in a trade for the pitcher since he carries such a large contract.

In other trade rumors, Yonder Alonso continues to be the subject of trade talks between the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees.

The Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels have discussed Dee Gordon the second baseman for the Miami Marlins as a trade target.

The San Diego Padres may use pitchers Kirby Yates, Ryan Buchter and Brandon Maurer as pieces for different trades.

The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly not willing to accept offers for Manny Machado their star third baseman or Adam Jones their speedy centerfielder. However the organization has reportedly said it would be willing to let pitchers Darren O’Day, Brad Brach and Zach Britton go in trades.

The Texas Rangers have been looking for southpaw relievers to beef up their bullpen.

The Washington Nationals are said to be interested in Justin Wilson a left-hander for the Detroit Tigers.

The Boston Red Sox are very close to trading for Todd Frazier the starting third baseman for the Chicago White Sox, to fill a big hole at the hot corner.

In addition, the Red Sox have been scouting David Freese and Josh Harrison of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Asdrubal Cabrera and T.J. Rivera infielders from the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants infielder Eduardo Nunez in their search for the best fit at third base.

Rumors will continue to increase leading up the July 31 as teams will be desperate to find the player or players they feel are necessary to help them win the 2017 World Series.
