Why it matters
OptimistFi's case is that Applied Digital is a leveraged AI-infrastructure execution story. The business works if scarce, purpose-built HPC data-center capacity fills fast enough to offset construction risk, fixed costs and financing dilution. Zhang's purchase supports that view because the president added stock instead of cutting exposure.
OptimistFi's calculation puts the buy at 11.8% of the holding before the trade. The filing also shows a weighted average price of $18.86 a share, with separate trades from $18.40 to $19.16. That range shows the purchase was made in more than one execution.
After the purchase, Zhang reported 2,839,227 shares held directly. The filing identifies him as President. That larger stake matters because the Form 4 ties the trade to an existing insider position.
The reported ownership includes 500,000 RSUs granted on February 6, 2026 and the remainder of 750,000 RSUs granted on August 8, 2025. The February grant vests 100,000 RSUs on February 6, 2027, then 50,000 RSUs every six months after that cliff date. So part of the stake still depends on future service.
The August 8, 2025 grant has 125,000 RSUs set to vest on March 12, 2027, September 12, 2027 and March 12, 2028. The caution is that this filing shows one insider transaction and future vesting, not customer demand or revenue progress. It does not answer the operating questions.

What's next
The next dated milestone is February 6, 2027, when 100,000 RSUs from the February 6, 2026 grant are set to vest if Zhang stays in that role. If that vesting happens, reported ownership rises again.
After that, 125,000 RSUs are scheduled for March 12, 2027, September 12, 2027 and March 12, 2028 from the August 8, 2025 grant. Those dates give investors a clearer timeline for changes in reported ownership.
