What Astera Labs (ALAB) Said on Its Q3 Earnings Call

Astera Labs (NASDAQ:ALAB) reported record third-quarter 2026 revenue as demand for its AI connectivity products increased, led by production-volume shipments of its Scorpio X-Series fabric products.

Revenue totaled $584.9 million, up 49% from the prior quarter and 154% from a year earlier. Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Jitendra Mohan said growth was broad-based across the company’s AI fabric and signal-conditioning portfolios, with Scorpio becoming Astera’s largest product family by revenue during the quarter.

Scorpio X-Series revenue exceeded that of the company’s P-Series products in the period. Combined Scorpio revenue represented more than $1 billion on an annualized basis, according to management.

Third-Quarter Financial Results

On a non-GAAP basis, Astera reported gross margin of 72.4%, above its prior outlook of 72%. Operating expenses were $162 million, up 19% sequentially, reflecting research and development investments. Non-GAAP operating margin rose to 44.7% from 39.1% in the second quarter.

Non-GAAP net income was $243.4 million, or $1.32 per diluted share, compared with $0.80 per share in the prior quarter. The company ended the quarter with $1.38 billion in cash equivalents and marketable securities, up $125.3 million sequentially. Cash flow from operations reached $179.2 million.

Chief Financial Officer Desmond Lynch said the company’s growth reflected higher shipments of Scorpio X-Series products across multiple platforms and radix configurations, as well as continued expansion of the P-Series. Aries signal-conditioning growth was supported by PCIe Gen 6 adoption, while Taurus products gained momentum in 400G and 800G scale-out applications.

Fourth-Quarter Outlook

For the fourth quarter, Astera forecast revenue of $730 million to $750 million. The midpoint of that range would represent 27% sequential growth. The company expects continued Scorpio X-Series and P-Series expansion across customers and platforms, along with growth in Aries PCIe Gen 6 retimers and Taurus 800G solutions.

  • Non-GAAP gross margin is expected to be about 72%.
  • Non-GAAP operating expenses are expected to be $194 million to $200 million.
  • Non-GAAP operating margin is projected at approximately 45%.
  • Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share is expected to be $1.62 to $1.66, based on 187 million diluted shares.

Lynch said operating expenses are rising to support customer programs, additional headcount, wafer, mask and intellectual-property costs, and variable compensation. He added that the company views operating expenses of roughly 30% of revenue as an appropriate longer-term framework, while noting current revenue growth is generating operating leverage.

New Product and Market Initiatives

Management highlighted several product launches and expansion areas intended to broaden Astera’s addressable market. During the quarter, the company introduced Aries 7 PCIe Gen 7 copper and optical connectivity products, Leo 2 and Leo X-Series smart memory controllers, and Orion, a compute-agnostic rack-scale reference architecture for enterprise AI and inference applications.

Mohan said Scorpio X-Series shipped to two customers across multiple platforms in the third quarter, while pre-production shipments to additional customers were expected during the fourth quarter. Scorpio P-Series broadened across multiple platforms, including deployments at two U.S. hyperscalers, he said.

Astera also said its Taurus 800G products were qualified and shipping in volume to its lead customer and were being sampled by several additional customers. Leo products have completed qualifications at several customers, including two hyperscalers, with high-volume shipments anticipated in mid-2027.

President and Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Gajendra said the company is pursuing four additional growth vectors: optical connectivity, custom silicon, memory solutions and rack-scale platforms. He said Astera has more than 10 active custom-solution engagements involving fabric products, memory controllers and I/O chiplets, with initial custom-solution shipments expected in late 2027 and volume ramps anticipated in 2028.

Optical Connectivity and Orion Platform

At the Open Compute Project event, Astera introduced smart optical drivers and transimpedance amplifiers for near-packaged optics, or NPO, applications. Gajendra said the products would begin sampling during the current quarter to select hyperscaler and OEM partners. Management expects initial optical revenue contributions in the second half of 2027, while co-packaged optics volumes are expected mainly in the 2028-to-2029 period.

The company also introduced its Orion reference architecture, which spans six production-ready designs and can scale from eight to 160 accelerators per cluster. Orion integrates Astera’s fabric, signal-conditioning, memory and COSMOS software products. Gajendra said the initial Orion platform is based on PCIe scale-up and is expected to contain about $100,000 of Astera content per fully configured 80-GPU rack.

That content includes components and baseboards, software and royalties from OEM and ODM partners using the reference design, according to management. Gajendra said the platform is expected to be margin accretive, though he characterized Orion as being in its early stages. Initial market entry through ODM and OEM partners is planned for 2027.

Looking further ahead, Mohan said Astera aims to increase its connectivity content per accelerator as AI systems expand in scale and complexity. He said existing fabric-switch and copper signal-conditioning content can exceed $1,000 per XPU in highly configured systems, while the company expects next-generation AI fabric products alone to contribute more than $1,000 per XPU.
