Valion Bio (NASDAQ: VBIO) says NMR platform clears initial feasibility test

What happened

Valion Bio, Inc. (NASDAQ: VBIO) said Velocity Bioworks completed an initial feasibility evaluation of LarmorBio's BioScan-NMR platform on October 15, 2026. Velocity Bioworks is Valion's wholly owned biologics contract development and manufacturing organization subsidiary. Valion said BioScan-NMR is being developed as a new process analytical technology for biologics manufacturing. The evaluation produced data that support continuous, real-time, non-invasive bioprocess monitoring of cell size, density, viability and phenotype in bioreactors.

The company said the technology is built for closed-system measurements. It could reduce the need for routine offline sampling. Valion said the initial results are encouraging. The platform signal showed a strong correlation with optical density at 600 nm, or OD600. Valion also said the results suggest nuclear magnetic resonance measurements could track microbial growth during fermentation.

The milestone came less than six months after Valion secured exclusive rights to LarmorBio's next-generation NMR technology.

Why it matters

OptimistFi's case is that VBIO is only attractive as a financed biotech option, so progress on assets matters as much as cash runway. This filing adds an early technical update for Velocity Bioworks. The signal also tracked closely with OD600, which is a common measure of cell density. The release says the platform could reduce reliance on routine invasive sampling and sample processing.

The short gap between the rights deal and this test suggests the partnership moved quickly from agreement to proof of concept.

Valion said innovation and differentiation are becoming more important in the CDMO industry, and it cast this milestone as part of that strategy. The company also said the project is still an early-stage proof of concept. Later work must confirm that it can reliably monitor additional critical process attributes.

What's next

Velocity Bioworks plans to use the results to guide later development work. Those next steps include testing the closed-system and continuous monitoring features. Valion said it looks forward to full implementation of the PAT system at Velocity Bioworks. The release says that if later development shows reliable monitoring of additional critical process attributes in a closed system, BioScan-NMR could become an enabling technology for more data-rich, responsive and efficient bioprocessing.

If it stays a proof of concept, this filing remains an early technical step rather than a commercial one.
