Yankees Have Huge On-Field Brawl with Tigers

On Thursday afternoon, the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers let their emotions get the better of them as a brawl broke out during the sixth inning at Detroit’s Comerica Park.

The brawl saw Miguel Cabrera the veteran first baseman for the Tigers and Austin Romine the Yankees catcher ejected. However, the two were far from being the only two involved as both benches cleared on several occasions in a game that was marred by numerous fights.

Detroit won the game 10-6, but it seemed the game and outcome were secondary.

Sanchez was the designated hitter in the game and had hit a home run early. He has been hot the month of August and hit four home runs off the Tigers during this series, including a shot of 493 feet on Tuesday.

When Sanchez came to the plate on his next time at bat following his home run, Michael Fulmer hit him with a pitch in the top of the fifth.

In the home half of the sixth inning, Tommy Kahnle a reliever for the Yankees threw a pitch that sailed behind Cabrera.

Kahnle was immediately ejected and Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected soon afterwards.

Following the delay for closer Aroldis Chapman to enter the game, Cabrera approached Yankees catcher Romine and exchanged words with him.

Nothing was seen due to Romine wearing his mask, but when the mask came off, it was clear that he said, “I do not have anything to say to you.”

At that point, Cabrera pounced and an all-out brawl ensued with Cabrera taking a few swings and appearing to land one or more.

Sanchez soon arrived from the Yankees bench and clearly landed a body blow to Detroit’s Cabrera and appears to land another later during the brawl, while Romine also landed a few of his own.

Both Romine and Cabrera were thrown out when umpires restored order, but more was to come.

In Detroit’s half of the seventh inning, Dellin Betances hit James McCann the catcher for the Tigers on the head. Both benched once again cleared, but less action took place.

Betances was ejected and so was Rob Thompson the bench coach for the Yankees.

Todd Frazier was then hit in the top half of the eighth inning with Detroit’s Alex Wilson being ejected as was manager Brad Ausmus, after the benches cleared again.

The MLB commissioner’s office will soon hand down suspensions to all those involved.
