Aaron Judge the rookie right fielder for the New York Yankees hit a towering home run that traveled 457 feet on Wednesday night landing in the third deck in left.
However, during the same game, Judge set a major league record for straight games with at least one strikeout by a non-pitcher.
On Wednesday, during the ninth inning, Judge struck out against Erik Goeddel a reliever for the New York Mets. The strikeout gave Judge at least one strikeout in 33 consecutive games, which broke the single season mark set in 2012 by Adam Dunn.
Judge, sporting a grin, said he was told prior to the game that he had tied the strikeout record and that he had just been informed by the media at that moment that he had broken the record. He facetiously thanked the media for telling him.
Judge spoke a bit more serious when talking about his penchant for striking out.
He said the league has many great pitchers and at times you will be fooled by them. Pitchers will strike you out and if you continue to make good swings and swing at correct pitches, good things will eventually happen.
Judge is just two games shy of the major league baseball single season record for straight games with a strikeout by any ball player, which is 35, that was set in 1971 by Bill Stoneman a pitcher with the Montreal Expos.
The home run by Judge, No. 37 for the season, overshadowed his strikeout, at least for teammates, coaches and fans who felt it traveled even further than the projected 457 feet.
Didi Gregorius, who was on deck at the time of the Judge home run, thought the ball traveled at least 500 feet.
A pop out by Judge with the bases full during the seventh inning will probably be forgotten given Gregorius who was next up hit a two-run double that decided the game in the Yankees victory in the Subway Series over the Mets 5-3.
Although the strikeout streak was extended, Judge ended one other streak. His single in the sixth game Judge his first game with two or more hits since July 18, after 24 games of not doing so.
