Giancarlo Stanton Continues Record Pace for July

If you miss any one of Giancarlo Stanton’s at-bats the risk you will miss his march toward setting home run history.

Monday night, the Miami Marlins All-Star had his fourth game with multiple home runs during July, helping lead his team to a 4-0 win against the Texas Rangers.

In the first inning, Stanton’s home run was projected at over 429 feet and had a 110 mph exit velocity, making it the 17th home run this season with a 110 mph exit velocity or more, and tied Aaron Judge of the Yankees for most home runs in baseball at 32.

The second blast by Stanton was a line drive of 384 feet to the opposite field with a 105.6 mph exit velocity. The Marlins slugger has now hit a home run in 26 different MLB parks versus 25 teams in the big leagues.

As well as matching rookie Judge with baseball’s most home runs, Stanton came up with the game’s best defensive play. During the third inning, Stanton in right field threw out the Rangers’ Shin-Soo Choo who tried to stretch his single into a double.

Stanton said he has been mostly non-existent this season on defense, but has three outfield assists over his past two games.

Jeff Banister the manager for the Rangers called Stanton a remarkable talent and if he is allowed extension he can hit the ball very hard, as he is able to get the barrel of the bat through the strike zone at a remarkably strong pace.

Stanton added to the franchise record of home runs during July that now stands at 11. The mark for the club for any month stands at 12, done on three occasions. Stanton hit 12 during May of 2012 and June of 2015 and Dan Uggla hit 12 during May of 2008.

The record in MLB for home runs during July is 16 held by Albert Belle in 1998 and Mark McGwire in 1999.

This season, Stanton has hit multiple home runs in seven games and for his career in 25 games. Hanley Ramirez, now with the Red Sox, is second for the Marlins in multiple home run games with 12. For one season, the record in baseball is held by Hank Greenberg and Sammy Sosa with 11.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly praised how Stanton hit home runs to both outfields and how he has three defensive assists over the past two games showing his strength on both offense defense.
