David Price Continues to Have Problems with the Media

On Friday night, prior to the Boston Red Sox game at Toronto, pitcher David Price, Manager John Farrell and President of Operations of the Red Sox Dave Dombrowski met over an incident where Price verbally confronted Dennis Eckersley an analyst with NESN.

The confrontation took place on the team’s flight to Toronto from Boston following the Red Sox game on Thursday night.

Farrell confirmed a meeting was held but did not elaborate just saying that it was all being taken care of internally.

The Boston manager also confirmed that the Red Sox veteran left-hander would make his next scheduled start, but no indication was made of any potential disciplinary action that might have taken or took place following the meeting.

Price was one of several people who did not want to discuss the matter. When he was asked if the meeting settled the situation Price only answer that yes it had. When the pitcher was pressed for more information he would only say that some people did not have an understanding about how hard baseball really is.

Eckersley, a former pitcher himself with Boston and other teams during his Hall of Fame career, was asked about Friday’s confrontation with Price, but would not make a comment.

Dombrowski as well as Sam Kennedy the team president would not comment on the outcome of the meeting when asked.

Team officials were upset about the second incident of a similar nature between Price and a member of the media.

Price had pitched on Thursday against Minnesota winning a 6-3 decision. He pitched seven innings and at times his fastball reached 97 mph. He showed no signs of a blister or split fingernail issues that developed during his most recent start before Thursday’s.

However, it seems he was upset about something.

Eckersley was glowing in the analysis he gave of Price’s outing, but what was not known was if the confrontation was about something he said during the game on Thursday or from something before.

Eckersley, who is also on the pre- and post-game shows for the Red Sox is considered an honest and tell it like it is analyst and being a member of the Hall of Fame helps back his words up.

Earlier in the season, Price also confronted Evan Drellich a baseball writer for Comcast Sports, for a number of tweets that Drellich had made.
