Cespedes, Conforto Stake Mets to Early Lead

CespedesYoenis Cespedes and Michael Conforto staked the New York Mets to an early 2-0 lead with the second inning solo homers hit off Dodgers starter Zack Greinke in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.

Conforto drilled a homer in his first career postseason plate appearance. The rookie outfielder turned on a 2-1 fastball and then reacted when it banged off the right-field foul pole.

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, Conforto joined Edgardo Alfonzo (1999 NLDS) as the only players in Mets history to homer in their first career postseason plate appearance.

Cespedes opened the inning with a line-drive opposite-field home run that snuck over the right-field wall

Cespedes hit .287/.337/.604 with 17 home runs and 44 RBI in 249 plate appearances in the final two months of the season following a trade with the Tigers. Conforto, since debuting shortly after the All-Star break, compiled a .270/.335/.506 triple-slash line with nine home runs and 26 RBI in 194 PA.
